WINTERPROOF™ FAQs

What is WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze?

WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze is a plumbing antifreeze product that provides total water system protection for pipes and waterlines during winter’s worst conditions. WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze is ideal for winterizing recreational vehicles, cottages, seasonal homes, pools, boats, and spas. WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze provides excellent water system protection, is safe for metal and plastic pipes, inhibits corrosion, and lubricates waterlines, pipes, and seals.

What is WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze made of?

WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze is composed of a combination of alcohol and glycol, and corrosion inhibitors. This formula ensures that WINTERPROOF™ products offer complete protection against bursts and cracks in pipes, plumbing, and water systems.

How does WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze All Purpose differ from the other formulas?

WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze All Purpose formula is designed for multiple applications and capable of protecting multiple types of pipes, such as metal and plastic pipes, and offers enhanced lubricity. However, the All-Purpose product has not been formulated with optimal materials for certain lifestyle assets, such as boat motors/engines, RV waterlines, and pool water systems. The formulas for these specific assets have been engineered to be safe in engines and optimized to reduce risks that inherently come with other assets, such as pools and in RVs.

How much WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze do I need?

The quantity of WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze needed depends on the asset that is being winterized. Refer to our How-To guides and videos for more information on how to properly winterize.

When is the best time to use WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze?

WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze is designed to be used in the Fall season, before freezing temperatures occur, to protect your pipes and waterlines from bursting. The freezing point of water is 0°C.

What is the BURST GUARD™ -50°C Guarantee?

WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze provides up to 1 year of protection from the date of purchase against any bursting and cracking up to -50 °C in all piping systems when used as per directions on the label. WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze performs as promised or we will refund your purchase of this product. Refund is only applicable when the product is used as directed, and not as a top-up or mixed with other products. Only WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze comes with the BURST GUARD™ -50°C Guarantee.

How do you dispose of WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze?

Each province/state has their own disposal policy and therefore the applicable government’s guideline of hazardous chemical material disposal should be followed. If you require assistance in disposal, please contact your local waste management facility.

Why is WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze slushy even though it claimed to work in -50 °C temperatures?

Under certain circumstances, WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze may appear slushy or frozen. However, even in extreme temperatures up to -50 ̊C, WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze is guaranteed to prevent pipes and waterlines from bursting when used as per the directions on the label since it will not expand as water does.

Can I mix WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze with water?

WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze is ready to use and should not be diluted with water. Diluting WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze will affect product performance and may result in expansion when frozen. To ensure maximum protection against cracks and burst pipes, it is crucial that there is as little water in your assets’ pipes as possible. When water freezes, it expands, which results in the cracks and bursts that can occur in plumbing systems when not properly winterized.

Can WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze be used as windshield antifreeze?

WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze should not be used in place of windshield washer fluid and should only be used as directed on product labels.

Can WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze be used in my car as coolant/antifreeze?

WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze should not be used in place of automotive coolant/antifreeze and should only be used as directed on product labels.

Can WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze be used in my boat engine as well as plumbing?

WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze Marine is custom designed for boats with an alcohol-free, non-flammable formula that is safe for boat engines. However, the All-Purpose product can be used in boat waterlines, but never in the boat’s engine/motor.

Can WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze be used in hot water tank?

No, you should not use WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze in your hot water tank.

How long does WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze last when unopened?

WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze is effective for one (1) year from the date the product is opened and applied.

Can I re-use WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze once drained?

WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze should not be re-used after draining. You should always start with a fresh new jug of WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze when winterizing your system.

Why is coloured dye used in WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze?

Coloured dye is added to WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze products to aid in leak detection and for visual aid when flushing the product out of the water system.

Does WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze stain porcelain toilets or sinks?

No, the dye will drain when flushing the product from the water system.

Why is WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze yellow when draining?

Occasionally certain materials, such as alkaline, can get trapped in our plumbing and water systems. As WINTERPROOF™ Water System Antifreeze is flushed through, the dye used is impacted by the alkalinity and the colour will change from pink to yellow, however despite the colour change, the pipes are still well protected.
